Levels of Care at Our Gaithersburg Facility

We provide a full continuum of outpatient care programs to suit your needs without disrupting your routine, going to work, school, or other responsibilities:

Partial Hospitalization Program

PHP is a structured day program that gives you the intensity of inpatient treatment without leaving your life behind. You’ll engage in individual therapy, daily group sessions, and family support – all while returning home each evening to practice the skills you’re learning.

Intensive Outpatient Program

IOP is a flexible step-down from PHP, offering scheduling that aligns with existing work, school, or family obligations. IOP group sessions are held daily in the morning from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or in the evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Outpatient Program

As you progress in recovery, OP provides continued therapy and peer support with greater independence outside of treatment.

Aftercare

Your healing journey at The Freedom Center doesn’t end with treatment. Our aftercare program provides ongoing check-ins and support, ensuring you remain connected and grounded so that you never feel alone in your recovery.

Therapies Designed to Help You Reach Your Goals

Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all solution. We offer a variety of treatment approaches, including:

Recreational Therapies

Recovery isn’t just about quitting your addiction. It’s about rediscovering the joy, purpose, and meaningful connections that matter the most to you. At The Freedom Center, we utilize recreational therapies and holistic practices to help you recover from addiction as well as explore positive, sober activities to continue your healing. Our Gaithersburg location offers:

  • Yoga – Gentle movement, breathwork to reconnect you with your body, and mindfulness practices help reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
  • Art therapy – Creative outlets to explore your emotions and foster personal growth as you find healing beyond words.
  • Music therapy – Reconnect to your internal rhythm using beat, melody, and sound as a powerful tool for emotional regulation, expression, and grounding.

Benefits of Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment can be a lifesaver if you’re trying to balance recovery with real life, as it allows you to continue treatment while maintaining responsibilities with work, family, and relationships.

Benefits include:

  • Flexibility – Keep your life intact while getting the treatment and support you need. Continue working, attending school, or fulfilling family obligations while you’re in treatment.
  • Affordability – Outpatient care offers the same expert therapy at a significantly lower cost than inpatient treatment, as it doesn’t require 24/7 supervision or housing accommodations.
  • Access to support – In addition to our on-site support, you can stay connected with your family, friends, and local support networks as part of an outpatient program, which will improve recovery outcomes.
  • Tailored treatment plans – Outpatient care offers personalized treatment plans that cater to the diverse needs and therapy schedules that work best for you.
  • Real-world skill building – You’ll balance outpatient therapy with your everyday routine, allowing you to practice stress-management techniques and coping strategies in real-life situations and build skills over time.
  • Less disruption to daily life – By balancing outpatient therapy with your everyday routine, you can maintain your responsibilities at home, work, or school while learning stress-management techniques and coping skills at The Freedom Center.
  • Ongoing therapy – Even after you’ve completed treatment through inpatient or outpatient care, we offer ongoing therapy to prevent relapse and continue your treatment. Remember: recovery isn’t a destination, it’s a journey.

Are Outpatient Programs Effective?

Studies reveal that outpatient addiction treatment can reduce the risk of rehospitalization and support lasting recovery.[1] Those who rely on outpatient care as a step between their initial treatment and sober living or aftercare have better recovery outcomes overall.

One of the reasons outpatient treatment is so effective is its length, which allows for planned continuity and personalized intensity over 90 days or more.[2] Outpatient rehab that is at least 90 days long and encompasses the full continuum of care builds independence over time and promotes ongoing engagement within the recovery program. This, and the importance of personalized treatment plans which combine traditional, proven therapies with strategies tailored to the individual client’s needs, generally lead to higher success rates and long-term recovery.[3]

Frequently Asked Questions About the Gaithersburg Treatment Center

How Does Outpatient Care Differ from Inpatient Care?

Inpatient rehab requires you to live in the facility 24/7 and undergo intensive therapy sessions each day on a structured schedule. Outpatient treatment has designated times and days for therapy sessions, but the treatment program is more flexible and less intensive, allowing you to continue your daily life while participating in ongoing therapy sessions.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Outpatient Treatment in Gaithersburg?

Outpatient rehab is ideal for you if you no longer need intensive therapy and have a strong support system to help with your drug and alcohol addiction recovery. Those who have severe addictions, are at a high risk of relapse, or lack a stable home environment, may be better served by inpatient treatment.

How Long Does Addiction Treatment at The Freedom Center Last?

The duration of addiction treatment depends on individual needs, but outpatient rehab programs can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months on average. The typical timeline for addiction treatment at The Freedom Center is 90 days with the full continuum of care.

How Many Hours Per Week Is Outpatient Treatment?

The number of hours spent in outpatient treatment depends on the personalized treatment plan and level of care recommended to you by our clinical team. You may require only a few hours per week in treatment, while others may need to attend sessions several days per week. PHP or IOP programs offer more continuity in therapy than traditional outpatient treatment to help you stay focused on recovery and transitioning gradually into a lower level of care.

Does Insurance Cover Treatment at The Freedom Center in Gaithersburg?

Many insurance plans cover addiction treatment, but coverage varies. It’s essential to verify the costs and payment options with the insurance provider or the rehab center to understand the details. The Freedom Center accepts all commercial major medical insurance plans and will work directly with your insurer to verify coverage and benefits.

Is Working Allowed in Outpatient Treatment?

Yes. One of the primary benefits of outpatient rehab is that it enables you to continue working, attending school, or fulfilling family obligations without interrupting your treatment.

What Happens if I Relapse During Addiction Treatment?

Relapse prevention is a crucial part of recovery, but relapse can happen. If you relapse, your treatment plan may need to be adjusted to provide more support, such as more frequent therapy sessions, inpatient care, or more focus on coping strategies.
