Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
What is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a type of substance abuse treatment that caters to those needing a high level of care but a lower intensity than that of a fully inpatient program. It’s less restrictive (and less expensive) than residential rehab but still provides a high level of medical and psychological support. This combination of flexibility and ongoing support is one of the main reasons why PHP is such a popular drug rehab program.
At The Freedom Center, our program is 5-6 days per week, 6 hours per day (the time commitment is comparable to that of a part-time job). Our program involves a combination of behavioral and holistic therapies, wellness education, recreational activities, and a higher level of psychiatric and medical support than outpatient treatment.
The Benefits of PHP
PHP can be used to treat any and all types of substance abuse disorders as well as co-occurring mental illness. It is the second highest level of care after inpatient and often the program of choice for those who diagnostically don’t meet the criteria for fully intensive care. However, many of those who have already completed residential treatment choose to continue with a partial hospitalization program because they still need help and the flexibility of partial hospitalization makes it an attractive place to begin addiction treatment. Clients do not live on-site at the facility. This makes PHP a much more affordable option than traditional inpatient care. It provides a supportive and immersive environment for a fraction of the cost of residential programs, ideal for those whose insurance only provides limited coverage or are paying for rehab fully out of pocket.
Freedom & Flexibility
Clients can choose their own accommodations while still participating in addiction treatment. Whether you opt to stay at nearby sober housing or perhaps commuting from your normal residence, PHP allows for maximum convenience. It also makes it easier to balance treatment with work and family responsibilities.
Individuals with severe addictions or co-occurring mental disorders (known as dual diagnosis) often require additional psychiatric support after their program is complete. PHP can continue providing medication management and access to additional psychiatric care. However, PHP is an excellent option for anyone who has already been through residential rehab but feels the need for high-level support.
Our PHP Program Includes:
Our program begins with a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment completed by our clinical staff. This assessment allows us to not only gain a deeper understanding of the specific needs of the client, but also supports our team in developing a more comprehensive and individualized treatment plan.
Individual & Group Therapy
Group and individual therapy are the foundations of all treatment programs. We have created a treatment curriculum that is innovative, dynamic, and provides each client the opportunity to explore and experience a wide range of group topic and activities.
Clients participate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with their primary counselor in a group setting. CBT groups are evidenced-based and have been proven to be effective in substance abuse treatment. The Freedom Center intends to assist clients in understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behavior and gain insight into various techniques and interventions that promote change and growth.
Process groups are safe environments in which The Freedom Center clients can feel safe and supported to discover, uncover, and work through the underlying causes of their addiction with the help and support of their primary counselors. The intention of these groups is to help clients let go of their past, overcome their fears, and to improve authentic communication.
Psychiatric & Medical Support
Clients in treatment often have a need for additional psychiatric support to address their ongoing psychiatric issues, medication management, and access to additional psychiatric care. Our staff will ensure that each client receives the psychiatric support needed throughout their treatment and mental health disorders are treated alongside their addiction. Clients will meet with our psychiatric nurse practitioner or medical director within the first week of admission.
Family support and inclusion for addiction treatment are critical to the recovery program. We take pride in providing weekly progress updates. This is a time that can be arranged by families with the primary counselor. Families can expect updates on treatment, have a platform to ask questions, and receive feedback and support.
Exercise & Nutrition
The Freedom Center offers a comprehensive fitness and nutrition program for IOP clients. Our goal is improve healthy body image, lifestyle, weight management, and overall wellness using proven, science-based methods. Our Group Personal Training (GPT) programs will meet multiple times throughout the week. We request that participants attend at least one GPT sessions per week and one individual session every other week. We also provide weekly group presentations on topics including (but not limited to) nutrition, hormonal balancing, training methodologies, injury prevention.
Holistic addiction treatment is an approach based upon the knowledge that sustained recovery can only occur when a person’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health are addressed. The Freedom Center program includes various holistic approaches included chiropractic & massage therapy, yoga & mindfulness practices, experiential therapy, and nutrition & exercise education.
Vocational & Life Skills
The Freedom Center provides academic coaching and vocational support to help clients achieve their employment and educational goals. This includes working with clients to get signed up for classes, prepare for interviews, write resumes, manage work-related stress, and evaluate career plans. Our goal is to address areas of clients’ lives that may be causing stress and stagnation and work with them to improve these areas.
Legal Support & Case Management
The Freedom Center works as a liaison between the client and the court system, and advocates for the client’s needs outside of the treatment program. We address legal matters and provide solutions to achieve stability which allows clients to focus solely on their recovery while in treatment. A big part of recovery is cleaning up the wreckage of our past. Addressing these legal issues can provide a huge sense of relief for clients, allowing them to participate more thoroughly in their treatment and therapy process with ease.
We understand the importance of making friends in recovery, finding new hobbies, and how to get on a schedule or routine. Clients will meet and get coaching from a certified peer recovery specialist on how to find outside support networks, fellowshipping events, and creating relapse prevention strategies.
