IOP/ Outpatient Program:
Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) for drug and alcohol addiction treatment at The Freedom Center allows clients to live at home with a positive support system present. IOP includes group therapy multiple days each week, implemented according to a client-specific treatment plan. IOP is effective for those in recovery from addiction, and any associated mental health issues. Clients can reestablish normalized activities, and these transitional experiences are processed in IOP.
Our integrative treatment model addresses substance use and mental health concerns in daily afternoon and evening sessions designed to fit clients’ schedules. Our therapy options range from innovative to holistic, and our compassionate, highly trained staff members are equipped to treat co-occurring disorders. The Freedom Center team helps clients overcome barriers to recovery and develop strong therapeutic relationships while providing them a safe space to discover their strengths and potential.
We are recognized as a licensed substance abuse treatment facility in the state of Maryland, accredited by The Joint Commission. We offer intensive outpatient (IOP) & outpatient (OP) levels of care. To learn more about the treatment we offer, read below:
Addiction Treatment:
Our program begins with a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment completed by our clinical staff. This assessment allows us to not only gain a deeper understanding of the specific needs of the client, but also supports our team in developing a more comprehensive and individualized treatment plan.
Group and individual therapy are the foundations of all treatment programs. We have created a treatment curriculum that is innovative, dynamic, and provides each client the opportunity to explore and experience a wide range of group topic and activities.
Clients participate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with their primary counselor in a group setting. CBT groups are evidenced based and have been proven to be effective in substance abuse treatment. The Freedom Center intends to assist clients in understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behavior and gain insight into various techniques and interventions that promote change and growth.
Process groups are safe environments in which The Freedom Center clients can feel safe and supported to discover, uncover, and work through the underlying causes of their addiction with the help and support of their primary counselors. The intention of these groups is to help clients let go of their past, overcome their fears, and to improve authentic communication.
Clients in treatment often have a need for additional psychiatric support to address their ongoing psychiatric issues, medication management, and access to additional psychiatric care. Our staff will ensure that each client receives the psychiatric support needed throughout their treatment and mental health disorders are treated alongside of their addiction. Clients will meet with our psychiatric nurse practitioner or medical director within the first week of the admission.
Family support and inclusion for addiction treatment is critical to the recovery program. We take pride in providing weekly progress updates. This is a time that can be arranged by families with the primary counselor. In this time, families can expect to get an update on the overall progress in treatment, and to have a platform to ask questions, and receive feedback and support.
The Freedom Center offers a comprehensive fitness and nutrition program for IOP clients. Our goal is improve healthy body image, lifestyle, weight management, and overall wellness using proven, science-based methods. Our Group Personal Training (GPT) programs will meet multiple times throughout the week. We request that participants attend at least one GPT sessions per week and one individual session every other week. We also provide weekly group presentations on topics including (but not limited to) nutrition, hormonal balancing, training methodologies, injury prevention.
Holistic addiction treatment is an approach based upon the knowledge that sustained recovery can only occur when a person’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health are addressed. The Freedom Center program includes various holistic approaches included chiropractic & massage therapy, yoga & mindfulness practices, experiential therapy, and nutrition & exercise education.
The Freedom Center provides academic coaching and vocational support to help clients achieve their employment and educational goals. This includes working with clients to get signed up for classes, prepare for interviews, write resumes, manage work related stress, and evaluate career plans. Our goal is to address areas of clients lives that may be causing stress and stagnation and work with them to improve these areas.
The Freedom Center works as a liaison between the client and the court system, and advocates for the client's needs outside of the treatment program. We address legal matters and provide solutions to achieve stability which allows clients to focus solely on their recovery while in treatment. A big part of recovery is cleaning up the wreckage of our past. Addressing these legal issues can provide a huge sense of relief for clients, allowing them to participate more thoroughly in their treatment and therapy process with ease.
We understand the importance of making friends in recovery, finding new hobbies, and how to get on a schedule or routine. Clients will meet and get coaching from a certified peer recovery specialist on how to find outside support networks, fellowshipping events, and creating relapse prevention strategies.
Outpatient Care:
There are many pros to outpatient care, though it’s important to not let the advantages of a treatment program cloud your perception of the care you may or may not need. Outpatient treatment is intended to serve as a transitional treatment option for those who have successfully moved through the full continuum of care or may not need inpatient treatment. With that in mind, here are four reasons for enrolling in an outpatient treatment program:
- You are doing an intensive outpatient program as recommended by a clinician or medical assessment.
- You are someone who does not need medically-supervised detoxification or other inpatient treatment.
- You have successfully completed higher levels of care including detox and would like to continue treatment on a part-time yet intensive schedule.
- You are unable to fully commit to inpatient treatment and would like to enroll in an outpatient program in order to fulfill other pre-existing obligations.
Many clients experience both inpatient and outpatient treatment as part of the full continuum of care. When choosing which treatment program is best, it is important to understand the distinguishing factors between inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient rehab options, and identify which treatment option best suits your own or your loved one’s recovery needs. Committing to professional medical treatment will always sound intimidating initially. Though the truth about drug rehab is that there are people wanting and waiting to help. People who have lived through what you or your loved one are currently experiencing and have found a new way to live. It starts with realizing recovery is possible. Take it from a cast who has been there. Let today be the start of a new life at The Freedom Center.
At The Freedom Center:
Once enrolled in our personalized intensive outpatient program, you will learn how to cope with triggers (certain smells, places, feelings, and memories) as they arise, and what to look out for when transitioning from a life of addiction to one of sobriety. This includes things such as symptoms of mental illness/disease or possible post-acute withdrawal syndrome. You will spend some of your time at The Freedom Center in education sessions where our staff will teach you about addiction, how it forms in the mind, and what happens within your body when you detox and remain clean. You may opt to follow along with the path of a 12-step program or explore other routes such as spiritually-based programs that rely on holistic therapies like yoga and meditation mindfulness to keep you sober.
The holistic approach to addiction treatment focuses on identifying the physical, emotional, and spiritual healing of the individual seeking recovery. Not one specific approach is effective for all, and individual encouragement for non-traditional methods of substance abuse treatment help to identify one’s personal path of healing. The Freedom Center utilizes traditional evidenced-based addiction treatment models combined with more modern approaches to recovery and healing. These specific programs, including our intensive outpatient treatment program, are designed to promote the development of insight and knowledge, as well as change behaviors and develop more positive patterns of thought.
