On Going Care

Alumni Group: Our alumni group provides an opportunity to be with other men and women in recovery. You will laugh, you will cry, you will be challenged and inspired weekly as a Freedom Center Alumni Member.

Next Step I—Solution Training

Next step I is a six week training program where all participants learn how to respond to stress by using DST: “Developmental Skills Training” designed at the University of California in San Francisco. This research-based approach focuses on changing the addictive response of losing oneself to insecurity, anger and guilt.

The Program has been proved effective in working with depression, lowering blood pressure and improving diet and exercise over a six year period following the training. It works to lower the compulsive drive for control when under stress.

Many Freedom Center family members take part in this six week Next Step I Solution Training program to add momentum to the process of regaining personal empowerment (see Going Beyond Recovery)

Next Step II - Solution Training

Next Step II is a continuation of the “Solution Training: DST Method” created by Laruel Mellin, author of the “Pathway, turn off the drive to overeat, smoke, drink and maintain unhealthy relationships”.

Next Step II groups are weekly 12 week groups utilizing one of the 6 Journal Workbooks. These group meetings are designed to teach and re-enforce the 5 step skills to turn off of the drivers for excess and reaching for the outer solutions whether that solution is alcohol, drugs, work or other vices that affect the quality of your life.

Solution Training uses the latest neuro science in its pursuit of changing the brain from the science of neuro plasticity. With Solution Training you literally change the way you think and react to stress in your life, because of the re-wiring of old neuro pathways to new ones that draw from the higher brain functioning of our adult brains. This re-wiring of the brain not only increases self mastery skills but makes these changes permanent.

This work has been prove to be effective in decreasing depression, lowering blood pressure and increasing exercise for a significant (6 years) period of time after completing the training. The intention of the meetings is to provide a direct and permanent changing in old neuro pathways that resulted from past trauma, abuse, abandonment or being over indulged as a child.

This work not only saves a lot of time and money in re-working these past hurts, it provides the clarity and freedom in loving and caring for yourself in your recovery and beyond.
