Betty Ford Children's Program
Family and Children support for Betty Ford Children’s Program
Freedom Center offers a weekly aftercare group for the graduates and parents for the Betty Ford Children’s Program. The meetings are for children ages 7 to 12 years.
This program helps the child build greater skills and understanding with:
- Treatment& Recovery
- Coping & Expressing Feelings
- Problem Solving
- Getting Support & Safety
Parents and care givers are provided additional help in caring for themselves through group support and learning skills to better respond to stress.
Children's Program
Addiction affects the whole family and at Freedom Center we want the whole family to return to feelings of safety and excitement about their future. That means education and support for everyone and especially for the developing minds of children.
We feel that it is so important that we have partnered with the Betty Ford Children’s Program which is one of the best in the nation. We have created a 12-week, weekly support group for kids aged 7 to 12 and their parents who have completed the 4-day Betty Ford Children’s Program.
Our children’s program is unique in offering support activities that fully include the parent or care giver of the child. The group is an hour in length and focuses on: Self care, support from safe family members and support from the outlying community.
Like the Betty Ford Children’s Program, Freedom Center Children’s Program focuses on understanding what an addiction is “You can love your parent and hate the disease”, recognizing and expressing feelings in a safe way, problem solving, coping skills and creating safety for yourself when confronted with a parent or care giver that is active with the disease of addiction.
In the 12 weeks parents and kids wok with their highly trained counseling staff to receive maximum benefit. These meetings are held separately with the exception of the 4th, 9th and 12th meeting. During these quarterly meetings, kids, parents, care givers and staff engage in a large stoup meeting for fun, communication and increasing trust.
At Freedom Center, we model ourselves after Betty Ford Children’s Program with a “Not Child is Turned Away Because of Money” mantra. To learn more about Freedom Center Children’s Program and other family services, call 303-420-9430.
Family Program
The Freedom Center Family Program is designed to help the addicted person and/or family members better understand the disease of alcohol and drug addiction. The program includes information on the dynamics that are acted out within the family when the disease is active and how to best support the addicted person for their recovery while caring for oneself throughout the recovery and beyond.
Working with the family occurs in two ways. One is our Friday Night Program and the other is through individually scheduled family counseling meetings.
Family Night Family Program
As part of the Freedom Center Primary Program, participants attend Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening meetings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Friday night meeting is dedicated to the family and/or loved ones of Primary Program participants.
During the Friday night meeting, family members along with our Primary Program participants receive education about addiction, health and family (See Friday Family Night Lecture Schedule). After the educational part of the evening is completed an open group forum provides all members the opportunity to share the challenges and experiences of how addiction has affected them and their lives. This forum provides support, encouragement and guidance on how to care of oneself and begin a healing, recovery process for everyone.
